WiFi Information Specs is a simple utility application that displays WiFi information provided by the Android operating system. The App is designed to respect user privacy while utilizing industry-standard services to support its development and maintenance.
Data Collection & Third-Party Services
WiFi Information
The App accesses system-provided WiFi information such as network SSID, signal strength, frequency, and IP address.
- This data is provided by the Android system
- It is displayed locally on the device
- It is not collected, stored, or transmitted by the developer
- It never leaves the user’s device
Local Network (LAN) Device Scanning
When you start a LAN scan, the App finds other devices connected to the same Wi-Fi network. To show and identify them, it may read each device's IP address, MAC address (where Android allows it), and network name. It gets these names using standard local discovery methods (mDNS/Bonjour, UPnP/SSDP, NetBIOS, and reverse DNS). To guess what kind of device it is, the App may also check a few common network ports and read the title of the device's own web page, together with its ping response.
This happens only when you start a scan, stays within your local network, and the results are only displayed on your device. Scan results are not stored after you leave the screen, and they are never sent to the developer or to any third party.
Crash Reporting (Firebase Crashlytics)
The App uses Firebase Crashlytics, a crash reporting service provided by Google, to improve app stability.
Firebase Crashlytics may automatically collect non-personal diagnostic data when the app crashes, including:
- Crash logs and stack traces
- Device model
- Operating system version
- App version and build information
This data:
- Is collected only during crashes or fatal errors
- Is not used for advertising or tracking
- Does not include names, email addresses, phone numbers, contacts, or precise location
Crash data is processed and stored by Google Firebase in accordance with Google’s privacy and security policies.
Advertising (Google AdMob)
The App uses Google AdMob to serve advertisements. In order to provide ad services, measure performance, and prevent fraud, Google AdMob may automatically collect and process certain information from your device.
The data collected by AdMob may include:
- Device Identifiers: Advertising ID (e.g., Android Advertising ID), IP address, and device type.
- Usage Data: Information about how you interact with ads (clicks, views, and impressions).
- Approximate Location: Derived from your IP address or coarse network location to serve geo-targeted ads.
Google AdMob may use tracking technologies, including cookies or unique device identifiers, to serve personalized ads based on your interests. You can manage or reset your advertising preferences directly within your Android device settings (Settings > Privacy > Ads).
App Permissions
To provide core network utility features, the App requests permission to access specific device capabilities:
- Location (precise/approximate): Android requires this to read the name (SSID) of the Wi-Fi network you're connected to. The App does not use it to track your location, and the developer does not collect it.
- Nearby Wi-Fi devices / Local network access: Used only to scan and identify devices on your local network, as described above.
- Wi-Fi state, network state, and multicast: Used to read Wi-Fi details and to discover devices on the local network.
- Notifications: Used to show Wi-Fi status notifications.
- Advertising ID: Used by advertising partners as described in the advertising section.
Personal Data
The developer does not directly collect, store, or share personally identifiable information (PII) of any kind. Any data processing for ads or analytics is strictly handled by our third-party partners (Google Firebase and Google AdMob) as described above.
Data Sharing
The App does not sell or rent your personal information to third parties. Data is shared with third-party service providers only to the extent necessary to provide infrastructure services:
- Google Firebase Crashlytics: For application stability and crash diagnostics.
- Google AdMob: For delivering, targeting, and analyzing mobile advertisements.
For more details on how Google handles data, please review the Google Privacy Policy and How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
Children’s Privacy
The App is safe for general audiences. However, because it serves advertisements via Google AdMob, we comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). We do not knowingly target personalized advertisements to children under the age of 13.
Disclaimer
